LAUNCH OF SOCIAL JUSTICE COMMITTEE

First Meeting will be on June 22 at 12:30 PM Parish Center

We are planning to start a new Committee, building on the foundation of many parishioners already engaged in Social Justice, including members of the Ukrainian Welcome Circle, Saint Vincent de Paul Society, those who advocate with our elected officials for Humanitarian Aid for the Poor, and many others.

The proposed MISSION is to strengthen our commitment to Catholic Social Justice by EDUCATION, AWARENESS AND COLLABORATIVE ACTION FOR CHANGE.

¨ First, we need to understand the rich tradition of Catholic Social Teaching, beginning with Pope Leo XVIII (our current Pope’s inspiration).  In his encyclical of 1861, Rerum Novarum. We can draw on the Scholars at Boston College!  And learn from Scriptures and Papal Documents.

¨ Second, we need to build awareness about the heartbreaking poverty facing many people in our neighborhoods and beyond, especially Immigrants.

¨ Third, we need to explore what kinds of Volunteer Activities are appropriate and relevant for our Parish,  and then PRIORITISE those that are appropriate and relevant for our Parish to adopt for now.
